From what I hear... the F150 trans/transfer case but I do not know the length, I would think the short wheel based Explorer manual transmissions would be OK, again the length overall is important. I have heard that they aren't the best, but if available might be an out.
Measure up engine/trans/transfer individual/overall lengths in your existing setup. Start looking and checking the bone yards for something that will fit your measurements.
Find an F150 trans/transfer and measure them up and see if the length will work in the Ranger and check to see if the transmission mount/crossmember will work too. If it come out of a 302 setup then get the bell housing and all of the attached stuff too.
The fly wheel is different between 289/302 carb/302 EFI, there are different weights flywheels so if the 302 you have is from a manual setup you want the flywheel from that setup and get the clutch disc and pressure plate for core turn in if free.
If you can use the Outside Clutch Slave Cylinder then an early 80's manual bell-housing will work on the block and that will allow the use of different transmissions from other vehicles. I used an '83 bell-housing from a 302 F-150 with a larger trans from a Dodge 1 ton truck but had to use an adapter plate between the bell-housing and the trans.
Maybe with a Bell-Housing you can adapt a trans in too.
So this post has left you with nothing more than what you started with, check out what you can fit and start measuring other parts to see what will fit.
Sorry I can't be of any more help, luck.
