235's vs 265's ?


If Goodyear doesn't have a P265/75-16 tire that you want, a 31x10.50-15 is really about the same overall size. Difference is the P265 is Passenger Car rated, that's what the "P" stands for, and 31x10.50's are LT rated so they are stiffer and will ride a bit harder. Rangers of that vintage included a 4.10 limited-slip axle with the P265 tire option, so yes a P235 tire will have the engine singing.

Latest I've read on tire aging is that you shouldn't run on tires more than 6 years old regardless of mileage.
 
4.10 was not available with the 4.0L until 1998 (the OP already confirmed he has 3.73s).
