I run a 2300 in my ministock and its easy to make power but its all in your head. A header makes a good difference on one and most of the rangers came with them but not the best. Id definately go with an older model head preferibly a d port which is found from 74-79 i think the best ones have heart shaped chambers. Shave the head 140 and get a pretty good cam. The newer model rangers had roller rockers and roller cam which make pretty good power.
My setup currently on my car im running is kb forged pistons with arp rod bolts I have a d42 head which is a 74 model but is oval port. It has mild port work done with matching intake. I have a crane 425 solid lift cam with rocker retainers also called mouse traps. If you change a cam make sure you spend the money and buy an adjustable cam pulley save you lots of trouble trying to set the timing and make better power. Im running a 350 holley but really need a 500 but track will not let us. I have an aluminum flywheel but havent put it on yet they are very costly but give you much more torque from what I have been told.
