2035

Was receiving a radiation treatment for a severe case of basal cell skin cancer. Their machine went haywire and absolutely cooked my arm and thumb. After four months from my final treatment... I still have numbness and limited dexterity in my thumb... not sure it will ever be the same honestly.
So sorry. Hope it gets better.

Radiation burns are no joke... it's more then a tan... it a burn that keeps burning. This one continued to burn for nearly two months. It's now more like alligator perma tan.
Surely the cancer didn't survive that! What a bummer if it did.

As I've said before...

There is absolutely no way California isn't going to eventually start banning the use of gas powered ICE vehicles in one way or another. It'll happen within our lifetimes, guaranteed.

@stmitch

It's been really bothering me how you and I ended up where we did here. Enough that I've read the posts several times to figure it out. I've come to the conclusion that I owe you an apology. I now feel like I read your posts irresponsibly and was a bit short sighted on what you were actually saying. For clarity purposes... when you said something about my age and in my retirement I shouldn't be affected by any of this... I saw... what are you worried about old man... you will be dead before it affects you. That really set the tone for everything else you had to say. So... I'm sorry

Jim is very clear with his mods about not letting politics be discussed at length here... not even in the tailgate. He has also stated that he doesn't want to us to go full censorship here like many other social media platforms. So his staff walks a fine line with these things everyday. So your assumption that I only made this post to amp up some political point is not true. What is true is I do lean further right then I ever have and IMHO this entire Green deal they snuck in an Inflation Reduction Act just adds to the overall pain. I also don't believe they even have a plan to pull this off that doesn't include lining the military coffers of our largest adversary who's intentions seem perfectly clear. Also your assumption that I care what party you align with is not true. I could care less... live and do as you please... just don't tell me how I should live and do things in my life.

The last thing... I wish you would not have questioned my initiative as a mod here. It's the first thing I do in the morning and it's the last thing I do before I go to bed. I spend a couple three hours not just here but at one of Jim's other sites as well. I try to welcome all the new members not with a hello... but ask question about their plans direct them to our resources here etc... along with my welcome. I read most of the posts made and offer anything I can do to help... delete the spam... remove the foul language... settle the disputes... close the reports... ban the spammers and make the hard choices that certainly isn't always popular with all membership. Also know that most all of the hard choices aren't made singularly... we (mods) bring our concerns to the staff forum and consult with one another before those decisions are made. It's a thankless job... but please understand... I am always a brand ambassador for TRS.

I see you're in Indiana... if you're anywhere near Attica on 9/10/22... stop in and see us at the trail ride. I make a pretty good pizza and I'll top one for you anyway ya want. Then we can shake hands and just put this misunderstanding on my part behind us.

I think it will be more likely you will see Auto Drive Only freeways/highways in SoCal and Self Drive only allowed on side roads

I doubt ICE would ever be banned outright, just Taxed out of existence, lol, once ICE users become a voting minority "they" can tax it like crazy without fear of losing office

Good grief.

You've said that repeatedly to the point that it's becoming ludicrous. Maybe this time you could bring something resembling a supporting argument, rather than behaving like Henny Penny?

It didn't... I'm free from it. The healing process... well... it's an ongoing process.

I really wanted to circle back to this...

Rocket was a no go...

Your reading comprehension might be as bad as mine...

i did say... "today WAS to be"
Hydrogen has several hangups. One of the biggest is the enormous amount of energy spent trying to split it. It might work for big systems with a few defined refueling ports, but I really don't think we'll ever see it for over the road vehicles.

I'm not doubting you here... but I seem to remember some of what I read was... at least in some experts minds... this really was the best shot at moving the transportation industry away from fossil fuels.

At least part of what I said about this big ass rocket being used for mining operations for helium 3 was correct.

Hydrogen is great in some ways. It's a good option for upper stage rocket engines because it has a ton of energy density (by mass, i.e. impulse). For first stage engines it's messy because its energy per volume isn't great. A tank big enough to get a heavy rocket off the ground is also very bulky . I believe that's why SLS uses SRB's along with the main engines.

To keep it as a liquid requires immense pressure - something like 7200 psi? So you can have the energy density of liquid hydrogen in order to get the required range for a car, but that requires a tank capable of handling that pressure. Or you can carry it as a gas, but your range goes away so you're refueling constantly and the infrastructure to handle that has to be created.

Something like the shipping industry might be able to take advantage of it. Maybe even trains. But millions of individual passenger vehicles is a difficult problem for hydrogen.

I really don't need to?

I'll make it a BET though.. because that's all it is.

Here:

I bet 5,000$ that California in some fashion will start banning the use of gas powered ICE vehicles by 2050.

The Saturn V used kerosene for the first stage. I believe the rest were hydrogen.

Look how big the tank was for the SLS just for the main engines and was just to get to low earth orbit. Granted, half of that big tank was oxygen too but can you imagine how big the rocket would have to be if it was all hydrogen?

Probably not. That would require building out public transit that can take the place of owning a car. California about as good as building public transportation as the rest of the country, which means it isn't going to happen. The cities here are also about as suburban as they are in the rest of the country, which makes public transportation very slow in many places.

Yep. I'd love to travel back in time and hear the F1's fire up. Everything about the Saturn V was stunning. If/when Starship and the Super Heavy booster starts flying with any regularity, I might have to plan a trip to watch a launch.

Not necessarily no.

What I think they would do is to start barring the registrations of the oldest/dirtiest vehicles first and then work their way up.

pre emissions would get told they can't be registered first, then pre-injection, then obd1 vehicles, then obd2. This could be over the course of 20-25 years.. that would give the populace PLENTY of time to adjust and either buy a newer ICE vehicle that will still be legal for how many ever years it could be or do the 'right thing' and buy an EV. They could say people can still register a gas ICE vehicle as long it's some sort of hybrid..

As Ron has said, the average age of a vehicle on the road in this country is 12 or 13 years..

Going off of that.. I'd day California could probably immideately ban the registration and use of pre-injected vehicles and it wouldn't be an inconvenience to any sort of meaningful amount of its population.

The people who run this country are mongoloids at best. I'm standing firm on that 5k dollar bet.

The bet isn't that ALL gas powered vehicles will be outlawed, but they will definitely be restricted in one way or another..

That would be a fun TRS group event.
