2024 Ranger

The 2.3 is a whole lot more trucks than the 3.0 is...

Ours runs really good, it would give my 5.0 F-150 a pretty good run for its money.

Is the 3L Ecoboost V6 a new engine?

Only used in Lincolns, Explorers and bronco raptors as far as I know.

2.3 EB is based on the 2.3 Duratech which has been in trucks since like 2002.

the 2.3eb has had issues in the focus rs. something about the rings not being set right so people have been losing engines. the focus st guys are a lot happier with their 2.0eb than the rs guys.

my son has an st and we had an escape with the 2.0eb. both engines were very impressive for their size in gas mileage and power

Thanks. So the 2.3L Ecoboost isn't exactly new I'd assume many updates from what the Duratec was in the older vehicles though, I wouldn't think slapping a turbo on would be all that was done?

Wonder what the reliability issues have been on the 3L Ecoboost V6, don't think I've heard of any but I don't have anything new enough to be an Ecoboost LOL. I've even heard the 2.9L V6 in other countries had a turbo option, but wasn't highly regarded as being reliable.

I think it was a water jacket issue and being able to give the head gasket enough “meat” to seal against was the primary issue. I think the other problem is/was the boost level. Those engines were setup for 310 hp instead of the 270 hp the Ranger engines have.

So far, the engines in the Rangers and Explorers seem to be fine. I don’t remember there being a problem in the Mustangs either but it is possible I’ve missed something.

I believe the mustang engine had the same HP rating as the RS engine.

You might be right.

I know that the part with the head gasket was that they opened up the water jacket for better cooling and had slots between the cylinders for that as well. They switched from the slots to a cross drilled hole instead to give the head gasket a better seat.

Fordtechmakuloco had a video on it but I think it was a different ecoboost four banger. Maybe the 2.0.

I don't know if the engines were the same. I do remember when ford started doing the 2.3 eco boost in the mustangs it was rated at 310hp and the V6 was rated at 300hp.

Ford 2.3 Ecoboost in Focus RS made 350 hp; considerably more than 270 in Ranger or even the 310 in Mustang.

There was an issue where "RWD" head gaskets were installed in "FWD" RS motors - and either ports didn't line up or material wasn't adequate for the higher power.

We will note the Focus engines were made in Valencia, Spain. While Ranger engines are made in Cleveland, USA.

350??? No wonder it was blowing gaskets!

Dallara is pumping 395hp out of 2.3 in the Stradale @ 6,200rpm!

350hp in the Focus RS is at 6k rpm vs 310hp in Mustang at 5,500 rpm - so the torque (pressure in cylinder) is pretty cost, the Focus just revs higher
HP = torque (ft. lbs.) * rpm /5252

I find myself wondering how I convince my wife that i... with ownership of two four wheel drive vehicles... having probably used less then a hundred gallons of fuel between both since Jan 2022... NEEDS a brand new truck... AND I don't want to get rid of the two I currently own.

This is going to be a tuff sell...

That she needs one... it worked for me. :secret:

true, tell her she needs it, its bound to work better than the “its better to ask for forgiveness than permission “ tactic.
Ive been telling mine how practical a new maverick will be for “her”.
