2024 Ranger

i don't think i have ever seen iron pistons. all the engines i have broken down had aluminum, i believe. (except maybe the diesel ones)

You gotta go back aways... Around WWII era.

That summit link showed three sets of pistons that were steal. All for a Cummins. I think different sizes.

Some crazy looking pistons.

??? Engines have used aluminum pistons since the 50's. Cast, forged, hypereutectic are all aluminum.

Thanks, I guess I really never paid much attention....A steel or iron piston would probably also end up caked full of metal particles over time which would cause major cylinder damage too.

Not really, just a lot more mass.

Now that we all know what pistons are made of... look like and cost...

I really like the looks of the new Ranger over what it's replacing. At least from what we've seen of it.

I've been trying to scrounge up what little information there is out for the 2024. One of the most interesting things is that it looks as if they will offer the super crew with a 5 foot and optional 6 foot bed. Now the most disturbing... at least for me... is that the 4 door super cab and 6 foot bed will NOT be offered in the US or Canada. None of this is confirmed... but if it's true... my new Ranger dream bubble has burst.

While the current Ranger is built on the T6 architecture... the next gen will be using a modified T6.2 architecture. From what I've read the main reason is to allow for electrification... in both BEV and PHEV versions. Those both may be a couple years out. It seems that the T6.2 has pushed the front axle approx. 2 inches forward for better approach angle. It will also be offered with aluminium front control arms and a coil over watts link rear for the Raptor (think New Bronco) and a leaf spring version for all the lower variants. T6.2 Raptor chassis shown below...

I read that April 2023 will end the current Rangers run and production of the New Ranger will begin in May 2023.

I don't know where this leaves me in buying one... If they don't deliver a super cab version.

is there a step side version available now? that spy shot one looks like a step side

I’m struggling to see where they can push the front axle 2” forward unless the new/revised frame is significantly different from the current one.

The lack of a 6’ bed with the Supercrew is a bit disappointment. While the 5’ is fine for the “mission profile” of my 2019, a 6’ bed would be better and an aboslute minimum if I didn’t have the 2011.

I did find it interesting that the estimates of the PHEV delivered pretty close to 600 lb-ft of torque.

Super crew will have optional 6' bed.

But supercab will either not be offered, or offered only with 5' bed?

seems strange

There does look like there is more space between the wheel arch and the line for the door. Looks like they just make the hood longer.

Looks like a fully boxed frame. Are the current gen rangers this way?

Seems much more robust then the OBS ranger frames. W/ the tall skinny C channel. Not that there were too many issues with those frames tearing apart.

I misread the Supercab as Supercrew. Thanks for the correction.
