Was just told by my dealer that my transmission is slipping and will eventually fail and that the repair cost of $5000/$7000 for a new transmission would fall on me. I was also told that their mechanics had received a notification from Ford regarding this issue. There has been no recall as of yet and I am being told that here isn't anything that they can do for me.

Anyone else experiencing this issue or have any ideas?

i only know of a few. the ranger unit is lighter duty the the fullsize. but the fullsize stuff has had some issues with the supercharged 5.0 applications. there is a dealer doing a 700 ish hp setup with new rigs that has some people regretting it.

How many miles? Have you done a full service on it?

I recently purchased a 2020 Lariat that has 104k km on it, when I initially took it for a test drive I noticed slippage, I took it back to the dealer and they said they would get the transmission replaced... It took 3 months almost to the day, and 4 transmissions before they finally got it right. In the end they just took the transmission in to a transmission rebuild specialist and it was less than half the cost of a new install. So if you do end up going that route, I highly recommend shopping around for a rebuild specialist near you.
I've put 35k km on it since the rebuild, it took about 4k km for the adaptive transmission to "relearn" my driving, in the mean time it felt exactly the same as the "slips" and hesitations I was feeling. But in the end it levelled out and I haven't had any issues since.

It's likely that every pre 22 or 22.5 ranger transmission will fail much too soon. A LOT of people have been through this. Ford knows damn well about the problem... Evidenced by their revision of the parts at some point in 2022.

What causes the failure is a shift/rotation of the sleeve thats simply friction fit over the CDF drum.

Slipping, "hanging" between gears, and slamming into gears hard enough to give you whiplash are all symptoms.

I would recommend getting an aluminum transmission pan with a drain plug in it and plan on 30,000 mile fluid and filter changes with this transmission.

The fill/dip stick hole is right next to the flex pipe in the exhaust and is real handy to get at for the hot fluid level check. There is two manufacturers of extensions for that fill hole so you can check the fluid level in the engine bay and I believe you can fill from there as well but I haven't done the upgrade yet.

The transmission used Mercon ULV, on the spendy side and availability is a bit limited, at least it was when I did my fluid change. Not everyone has it on the shelf. The filter was easy enough to get. I think mine took 7 of the 8 quarts I ordered.
