2016 F-150 4x4 Grinding when letting off the gas

I always at least try to get something to act up, or look around at the resources available to me for information that might point me in a direction. Even on intermittent issues.

Sometimes you do just have to let problems get worse before you can really find them, but I never tell people that up front.

I still think your issue is in the IWE system and in some way related to the check valve. Unplugging the IWE solenoid up by the brake booster is a quick, easy, safe test. If the noise sticks around it is something else, if it goes away it's somewhere in that system.

The other thing to consider, driving with the IWEs engaged hurts nothing as long as the T-case is still in 2wd. If they are the source of the noise the engagement rings on the actuators and the wheel hub are both getting chewed up each time.

I still suspect the IWE. When I get back I'll take it to my regular dealer.

The last time I thought I had an IWE problem was on my 2016 Expedition. The ford mechanic traced the noise down to the front pinion, and it was all covered under warranty. Good thing because it was expensive. I don't have a warranty, so if this truck has that problem, I might be one of those people you see next to the road with a sign begging for money.

For now, I just need to get it to Ohio and back.

Going down the interstate and climbing a grade under part throttle I start hearing a chattering from the front. If I shift from 2H to 4A it goes aeay.

Thats exactly what my ‘17 would do... it was an IWE vacuum issue.

Saw another 4 newer F150'S on my way back from Annapolis MD today. They all had plastic flapping under the truck in the same spot passenger side under the engine.... wtf every day I see atleast 1 of them.

And how many newer f150 IWEs issues have you dealt with?

With the IWEs disengaged and the T-case in neutral, the front diff is not spinning... how exactly is it going to make noise if it’s not moving??

Zero, it was older trucks. Just sharing my experience in case it helps. My bad.

I learned with my 2016 Expedition that the transfer case with the 4A option bleeds power to the front differential in 2WD.

I had found a video once explaining this. I actually put tape on the front axles to test it.

Are you talking about the chattering? Wouldn't it become more constant with the axles engaged?

no the whining when on the gas, and the grinding when letting off.

I had the symptoms of whining when on driving and grinding when letting off the throttle. This was long time ago but idk thought it might help or spark and idea that would.
