So in my 2011 ford ranger xlt, I decided to remove that factory head unit and install a double din aftermarket head unit. My questions are, what is the second harness for? do I need to worry about doing anything with it or is it just simply for the accessories that were in the stock radio? It's next to nothing finding any information on a radio wiring diagram for a 2011 ford ranger. I'm assuming it can be referenced with a 2004 model because according to the VIN it says the Vehicle line is "VLR30 - Ranger (2004/)"

This is the only diagram I found that references the two harnesses that are behind the radio. "J1" was the one I used to connect the harness from the aftermarket headunit to the factory harness.
"J3" is the one i'm unsure of on if I need to make sure I connect all the wires or need a specific one from there connected.

"J3" could be used for the upgraded "tremor" sound system. Possibly not used on your current set-up.

Check the diagrams here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech/ford-ranger-radio-wiring-diagrams/

Generally speaking basic Ranger radio just has one connector

If there is a 2nd connector then there "may" be a remote amplifier, called Premium or Audiophile systems

And just a Heads Up on the START wire(J1-3), don't hook it up to 3rd party radios unless specifically mentioned in that radios instructions
The START wire has 12v when key is turned to START to MUTE Ranger radio sound
If your new radio SENDS 12v out on that wire starter motor will activate when radio is turned on or when you hook up the battery, lol
And never splice that wire to 12v Radio power, or same result
Its NOT for Radio power, its a signal wire

I have these three diagrams for 2008 Ranger
