Let's see Paul Allen's Ranger.
Alternator on the 2011 is starting to make some noise and has a rust powder line under it, so I got on rock auto to pick up a replacement, and to my surprise...

2011 Alternator Options

Uh... uh hua. $2.08 per Amp.

If my alternator was bologna, that would be a fair price per pound. But over $200 for a lousy 105 Amp? Come on, Ford.

Are there any other swappable options out there for the SOHC? I looked through the tech section to see if there was one like with the 2.8/2.9, but came up empty handed. Would like a higher output, but not necessary.

Spendy but it looks like other brand new ones are not much less & maybe questionable quality.

I had the alternator in my Explorer take a shit last year and I replaced it with a reman AC Delco one that I had on hand. Very low mile part and the voltage regulator took a crap on me last week. It had some crappy Chinese regulator in it so I pulled the Motorcraft one out of my dead alternator. Up & running again but I noticed my dead one had almost no brushes left and the insides were pretty crusty. That was supposed to be "rebuilt" by my local electrical place. I'm thinking they did very little to it, I only had maybe 15-20k on that since they worked on it. Frustrating. I might just have to start rebuilding them myself now that I have a bunch of dead ones on hand to rob parts from.
