I don't like that they dropped the 500 name and went back to the Taurus name. Maybe they felt the 500 name made the car sound to rich.
They dropped the 500 name because it was a new name nobody heard before. When Ford surveyed a bunch of people, most of them had never even heard of a 500, and this was a few years after it was on the market. They brought back the Taurus name because everyone recognizes it and it was an extremely popular car and a best seller. Ford should have never switched the name to 500 to begin with. The only reason they did it was they had some stupid idea that all Ford vehicles should have a name that started with an "F." (Fusion, Focus, Five Hundred, F150, etc) That idea was thankfully scrapped quickly.
