2009 F250 (Lots of Pics)

Hey man glad to see you came over here from RF, any reason why?

But like i have said b4 great looking truck

Thanks for the kind words.

4-Low + Low Gear = Very Nice!

Technically
4-Low (2.72) x Low Gear (5.79) x Ring & Pinion (4.10) = 64.5:1 Crawl Ratio

Those with manual locking hubs know that it's nice to be able to leave the hubs unlocked and use the low range of the transfer case to manuver at low speeds without the binding caused by a driven front axle. It's handy for backing trailers (especially with the manual transmission) and hauling hay... situations where you want a slow controlled speed without necessairly needing the extra traction of 4wd.

And as I mentioned earlier, I do goof off from time to time. I made this quick video to show two things:
1) 7000+ lbs sinks quickly and will get stuck in soft ground
2) this might convince my wife that I "need" an E-Locker up front :icon_idea:

Downey- I've actually been a member at TRS longer than at R-F. This place has always had a great wealth of knowlege for '97 and older Rangers, the twin I beam stuff. R-F has always had more guys with 98+ Rangers. I started off with an '89 Ranger and became a TRS member back in '03 I think, although I never post much in any forum. Both are great communities, and I've yet to find such a welcoming place even though now I'm not a Ranger owner anymore. Here's to a longer response than you were probably looking for! :icon_thumby:

I would have preferred the diesel and 8' bed if I were you but I'm not. Either way, nice truck. Kudos to you for getting the ZF6/NV271 combo! That truck will be a keeper for a long time just because of the trans and tcase.

Thats the kind of truck I want to get when I finally decide to go full size. I bet there are very few trucks optioned like yours out on the road today.. very nice

I love it!

I esp love the 3 pedals! keep buying them folks so they dont take the stick away! even tho i think they still are...

congrats on the new truck dude! and EXCELLENT choice of transmission, too. those ZF6's are simply the most bulletproof transmissions ive ever dealt with... good to know that ford still uses them. and the sterling axle gives reliability to match that trans!

all you need is some A/T's

How about some M/T's!

So, what kind of mileage do you see out of it? The reason I ask, is I have been looking at a new F-150 FX4, as a DD, and assigning the Ranger a trail slut. After I saw this thread, I priced an F-250 optioned about how you have yours, and guess what? It was cheaper than the F-150, and I don't have to give up grindin' my own gears! I don't have a real reason for anything bigger than a half-ton, but I really want the manual tranny, and if I'm going to be dropping 38k on a truck that I'll probably drive for the next 12 years... I want it to be exactly what I want.

Long of the short of it, what kind of mileage do you get, under what conditions (towing/empty/highway/around town...)? Thanks!

By the way... in case you couldn't tell.... I LOVE the truck, and the M/Ts look sexy!

I was in the same boat... really needing a half ton but when I priced out a comparible 3/4 ton they were within $2,000 of one another. I really wanted a manual transmission and manual shift 4wd, so it ended up being a no brainer for me.

I've got 15,000 miles on the truck, so I have a decent idea of the mileage this truck gets. Here's how the numbers break down:

Highway: 15mpg @ 65; 14mpg @ 70
Mixed: 14mpg
Town/City: 12.5mpg
Towing 7-8,000lbs: 9-10mpg

These are my real world numbers. Also, if you do end up getting an F250 with the 5.4L, I'd strongly suggest you get on with 4.10 axle gears. The 3.73 ratio is far more common, but really does not get any better mileage. Let's face it. My truck weighs a little over 7,000lbs without any accessories, or even with me in it. The 5.4L isn't bad, but it needs all the help it can get.

Personally, if I were to buy a different truck it would have a V-10. They are about $500 more (a drop in the bucket on a new $35k+ truck), get the same milage and have a ton more power.

The 5.4 in the F-150 feels better than the 5.4 in the Super Duty, between the extra heft and heavier transmission sucking power they don't have much of a chance.

That's not too shabby for that much weight. Like I said, I had been looking at half-tons, and then I saw this thread, and said "MMMMMMM 6-speed". Then I priced a 3/4 like yours and I think it's a no brainer for me too. It will probably be May before I actually buy anything, but the good news is that you can still get the manual in the 2010 SDs
