2008 Ranger, 100k miles, 3.0 Liter 6 Cylinder.

The Lower radiator hose sprung two leaks because it rests and vibrates against a clip from some other hose and a square corner of metal block. It's a 3-way hose, one goes to the lower radiator, the other to the water pump, the 3rd smaller hose in question goes up near the thermostat (red star on the large upper radiator hose indicates thermostat location).

The replacement hose, Duralast Radiator Coolant Hose E72021 https://www.autozone.com/p/duralast-coolant-hose-e72021/887537

I'm going to cut the old hose and double it up and zip tie it around the replacement so it doesn't vibrate through as easily.

Getting the hose off the water pump was a tight area and a PITA and it wouldn't budge so I sliced it off. This one too this elbow nipple wouldn't budge so I tapped the top of the hose down with a rubber mallet and a big flat screwdriver but apparently this nipple is aluminum and I cut a small hole in it, the hole is towards the top right where I'd put the hose clamp instead of if it were lower on the nipple past the hose clamp I wouldn't worry. It's prolly going to be a PITA to even get this part out and I really don't want to have to start taking pulleys and fans off the front of the engine to make room which is sorta beyond my experience and can be a PITA, plus see the silver pipe right in the way running left to right I think is the AC line under pressure and not sure if I can just disconnect the compressor or something to move it to allow some wiggle room.

What does this third hose to near the thermostat even do? People in the following 2 thread links said it's to warm the engine faster, some removed it and plugged the hose and just replaced the hose from the lower radiator to the water pump but I wouldn't mess with changing the design.

Someone linked the following part: ford f77z-18599-aa https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQZBC42/?tag=959media-20

But all theirs in those threads have a sensor on it and/or a second similar elbow, mine just has 1 elbow nipple and no sensor like this one called

Ford -N808344-S101 Elbow - Heater Hose Outlet

I need the right part # in case it leaks when I install the new hose. I put JB Weld on the hole and hoping it keeps it from ever leaking. I'm waiting for it to set-up and will test tomorrow.

I searched "2008" ranger elbow heater hose outlet etc but couldn't find an exact match or anything. Maybe someone's good w schematics. Hopefully I can order it online instead of people mentioning the Ford dealer in those threads but using a thread checker or exact %100-am-sure part # would be ideal so I don't cross thread it or something and really cause a problem. thanks

It's hard to see how bad the hole is. Can you rub some sandpaper over it to clean it up, mix up a little jb weld and daub it over the hole? Let it dry, slip the new hose on with a clamp and drive on? I do not know if you ever used it before, but JB weld is pretty good stuff.

Usually small hoses like that are under the thermostat, so they use that for purposes like the heater core so you get heat even though the thermostat is closed and the radiator is cold. Anything else important would have a small hose going to it, like possibly the throttle body/EGR cooler, etc.

as mentioned yes I put JB weld on it, I did that yesterday , I degreased it, sanded it, wiped it several times, I could barely get a finger near there I had to fish sandpaper through with 16" pliers, it's such a PITA to get to that spot and even just taking the serpentine belt off this engine to get a little extra room and then putting it back on seems 10x more of a PITA than any other car I've taken the belt off.

I had to do 2 small coats of JB weld and it's been over 24 hours since the first one and it's still tacky/rubbery, but it does say it takes time to set up so I'm not gonna force it and push the hose over it and potentially mess it all up rushing even though I really need the truck because if it does leak then I'm screwed, part # is hard to find hence I'm here, and would have to take like half the engine apart, decompress AC system possible etc which idk about, mechanic would prolly charge me more than I paid for the truck just to install this small part.
Video I saw of similar 3-way hose guy said it's a pita to get this one back on, so , like sprinkler poly line I'm gonna very gently heat up the end of the hose, lubricate it a bit, and hope I can shove it on there from the bottom. I can thankfully at least get a screwdriver in from the top to tighten down the hose clamp.

That'd make sense that this nipple feeds the heater core with the first-to-warm-up coolant surrounding the engine block before the Thermostat opens up from heat, but this small hose leads to the 3-way coupling that goes to the radiator and water pump, there's no check valve or anything in the coupling, so it's just the same fluid as within the radiator and wouldn't be available anyway until the thermostat opens. I'm guessing it has something to do with pressure regulation or something who knows.

If you are working in the cold, it takes longer for it to setup. And you have to careful while you are mixing it up, if you get the ratio unbalanced between the two tubes it can take longer to setup.
