i own a 04 ford ranger. its a good truck with the 3.0. but its lacks the power i want. so i want to do a v8 swap to a 5.0 or a 4.6 v8. but the problem is the only kits i can find are for ranger 97 and older, becuase they have the ttb supesion. but i have iss system so they dont fit. so if you know a kit or website that can help, or u can help. please do tell. thanks

If you want the swap to be 100% legal you'll have to use a 2004 or newer V8. Since Ford shitcanned the 5.0L in 2001 (I think) that leaves you with either a 4.6L or a 5.4L, both of which are possible but beyond the ability of the average wrench.

well it doesnt need to be legal becuase in michigan they dont check and dont do the tests. but i do like the 4.6

The 4.6 is a good engine, but it's the size of a Big Block

2004 v8 swap

The vast majority go 5.0/5.8 due to ready availability of a wealth of information and experience on the swap.

Do a Google for 4.6 V8 ranger swap and you'll get some info, though not much.

Good Luck!

thanks i do like the 4.6 but its not cheap on the up grades and more relible then the 5.0. but the 5.0 is cheap all around but not legal.

haha

im more then your average wrench. 18 years old.already done 31 engine rebuilds/27transmission rebuilds. and non of them came back with problems.

Well find an Explorer 5.0 motor and go for it.

I don't know that emissions standards changed between 2001 and 2004. Not sure it would be legal, but if MI doesn't check....

Regardless, easiest way would be to find a wrecked 5.0 Explorer and swap as many parts over including electronics as you can. There is a thread at www.explorerforum.com about doing this swap with a Sport Trac. The hardest thing to deal with is probably the PATS anti-theft on the ignition.

Option two, trade the Ranger on a V8 Sport Trac. :D

Bob Rwenzing (T.O.T.Y) is also from Michigan and did his '03' swap. Quite a few from up there have done the later swaps.
