2002 Ranger Question

My buddy as an '02 Ranger 2wd 3.0L automatic that is having transmission issues.

What tranny does it have, a 4 speed or 5 speed auto ?

i believe that it is the 4 speed. i say this because i think that the 5 speed was available only behind the 4.0. i am not sure about this information though.
