Aloha,

I am going to start trouble shooting a friend's 2002 Ranger 4x4. 4.0 V6, torsion front suspension.

The vibration feels a lot like something rubbing or slightly engaged (splines???).

Tried putting into 4x Low and High and then disengaging. No help.

Took a quick look under, all CV joint boots look good. Oily under diff.

Vibration and humming sound is relative to wheel speed.

Questions:
  • Is there common problem with this kind of vibration/humming sound from these vehicles?
  • Any hints?

Thanks in advance

Aloha,

I would check the oil in the front diff. Since you said it was oily underneath, it might be leaking.

Aloha, thanks for the suggestion. Checked the oil, it's fine. Just a little low but topped off. Seems to be coming from the wheel area, not underneath. Hope I can get some good ideas.

Thanks.
