well getting a 2002 ford ranger with the edge package on it. its 4 wheel drive and has a tow package on it. i was just curious if i could clear 285/75r/16s on it stock? another question is on the geariing i beleive it has 4.10s in it but not 100 percent sure if it has the 3.73s will it be enuff to turn 285s?

is it a auto or a 5speed? and what motor is in it? 4:10 and 5 speed, ur good, 4:10 and auto, you will feel it! and that size tire sould fit just fine! 3:73 and 5 speed, i would think is same as 4:10 with auto. 3:73 with auto...i hope you have flintstone floors to help get along...now that is my opinion of it with a 3.0. if you have a 4.0, it would be a different story and i have no expertice in that area and just opinions in others. try goin to the tech library. there are several charts on there for tire fitment, and tire to gear ratio so that yo can have a idea of whats goin on..

I used to have a 2002 Off-Road. If you turn the torsion bars up to level a 285/75-16 will fit. Your truck will have 4.10 gears.

Do all new ranger after 00 have 4.10? Friends 01 xlt says he has 4.10 also?

Most 4x4 Rangers have 4.10 gears. Off-Road, Sport, Edge, and FX4 models have 4.10 because of the taller 16" tires. If it is factory equipped with 235/75-15 tires or 255/70-16 tires then odds are pretty good it has 3.73 gears. Check the diff tag to know for sure.

Both of my 4x4 Ranger's are Supercabs with 3.73's. Only difference is one is a 3.0 and the other is a 4.0. When I had 265's on the 3.0 I could feel it, on the 4.0 I can't. 285's will fit if you turn up the torsion bars a bit but I do believe they will rub the sway bar at full lock.

Actually you can check the tag on the inside of the inside of the drivers door. You can visit the tech library and look up your code. I was curious about mine and found out I have an open 8.8" w/4.10's. I am just glad I do not need to regear. :yahoo:

I knew my level2 has a r7 axel but i though only the fx4 and lvl2 had the 4.10s not everything else. Hmm learn somethin new everyday.

Code: 97
Description: open 8.8"
Capacity: 2750
Ratio: 4.10

The R7 has an s/l.
