2002 F250 diesel - discovery and build thread.

This arrived yesterday. I’ve got some studying to do. I could probably use a diagram of the fuel system if anyone has one handy. Something showing components and routing - filter, lift pump, water separator, injector pump? Pressure regulator, etc

Just curious what is your F150 and how heavy a trailer you using? Distance?

My F150 is a 97, 4.6l, rwd, auto. I’m not going to tow the f350 with it. It already feels sketchy with my Ranger on the 20ft car trailer. That’s why I want something heavier duty for hauling on long trips. I don’t recall the distance, but the F350 is about 1 1/2hrs away by interstate, 2hrs on back roads.

Eh yeah...i wouldnt try it with that.

Maybe rent a uhaul truck but tow your trailer? I would think one of the 1ton dually econolines wouldnt have an issue

I got access to my ex-wife’s uncle’s Dodge 1 ton Cummins crew cab dually. It will handle it.

Only for a couple hrs. Some things can’t be avoided.
It's alright. Eventually, every ford will wind up on a trailer being pulled by a Dodge.

It's just that there's going to be photo evidence of yours.

Dodge trucks (and/or Ram trucks) only have one purpose… they’re shipping crates for Cummins engines.

My '97 got towed back by a dodge, it happens...

Fuel system diagram is simple (until it gets screwed, there's lines everywhere in the valley...), fuel switch valve deal is under the drivers seat, line goes to the mechanical fuel pump in the valley then to the fuel filter in the valley just in front of the pump (literally can't miss it, big black screw off lid), from there it gets sketchy...

It's really gotta be the cam sensor or high pressure oil pump, those are the most common no start issues if I remember right.

2 for 2....

I have been working on 7.3 Powerstrokes for 10 years and have 2 of them, I would be happy to answer any questions you have.

You may regret that offer. I appreciate it. My EVTM arrived yesterday. I had some time to study it today. Not bad. I would prefer an older, less electronic diesel. But I feel pretty good about this at the moment. The newest ones are probably a lot worse. And I'm glad it doesn't have the DEF system that's on the new stuff. I've heard nothing good about that.

The old 7.3L is a good solid gutless (in stock form while towing, but unloaded under 12k pounds mine is very peppy even worn the F out...) workhorse, could be better, could be worse, it has OBD II but doesn't tell you much that's useful... plug your dongle in and watch for RPM, if it doesn't have any then cam sensor...

I've had mine since late '12 and somewhere around 25k miles I think, doesn't move much unless it's towing, gets 9-17mpg depending, have put a fancy aluminum racing radiator chasing an overheating loaded issue that was mostly the turbo and other part being non intercooled...
