2001 Ford Rager 3.0 Shifting issues

Word man. Good lookin truck. Black just looks sexy on rangers. Are those lights behind or in front of your grill? I'm kinda blind.

In Syncro shaft chirp will not throw CEL. It will not throw a CEL when it is causing a bucking/hestitation issue over 3k RPM. The Syncro is not monitored for faults or 2500 RPM. Short of the shaft wobbling enough to strike the syncronizer into the housing, the CEL will not come on, But when it does strike the housing you get all sorts of lights, oil, and CEL because the gear that is turned by the cam just sheared and now you have no oil pressure. If you have gotten this far, its a new engine.
As for notice repair, highly discouraged, even a good back yard guy (the one that knows his truck in and out) would want to think twice. It is in a less then nice location and requires perfect re-insterion and a special alignment tool that may not be available at you rlocal Autozone. If you have pulled and clocked distributors multiple time before, by all means go for it, and use the same methodalogy (ie lift piston 1 to TDC compresion and mark), but still have the proper tool. I had a dealer in NJ change it, cost $250+ for part another $300 for diag and labor.

PS: the test to check if the chrip is the syncro. Remove serpentine belt and start motor (only for a minute or two) if the chrips there in syncros the problem. If not its a pulley so just turn up the radio.

LBC, let us know what you find. If it is the Syncro let everyone know what you expereinced. It seems as if the Syncros put out a little different indication of a problem each time one is found prior to Death. So let your observations help someone else out.

Do you mind letting us know how and what you used to mount the lights there. It looks similar to the Shelby Mustang lights in the grill.

This has been seen before.

It could be your DTR, digital transmission range sensor, a fancy name for the neutral safety switch. 3,000 rpms is the key here because in Neutral or Park, Ford limits your rpms to 3k. Your PCM thinks you are in neutral instead of Drive.

Next time it does this, take it out of D and go down to 2 or whatever your next lower gear is labelled. If it revs past 3k in THAT gear, replace your DTR.

You might also test it by simply turning the key to Run (engine off) set the parking brake, and put it in reverse. If the backup lights don't come on, wiggle the shifter around until they do. The same DTR turns on the backup lights, so if they don't work in R, but work in some other position, that condemns the DTR.

You MAY simply need to adjust it to fix your problem. It's an easy part to replace and adjust.
