2001 4X4 1/2 shafts

Can the truck be driven with the 1/2 shafts removed or do they hold the tire assembly on to the spindle?

You can drive without the CV shafts in place, however you'll need to plug both ends of the differential to prevent gear oil from leaking. Also you might get an ABS light if the sensor doesn't detect a tone ring. Not sure how that would affect it though, I only have rear ABS not 4 wheel. I would probably take out the fuse just to be safe.
