We changed the coil and installed the wires per an online diagram and the truck runs terribly. Yes, I know we should have marked the wires before removing them but that didn't occur.

the plug wires for passenger side are connected 1,2,3 from front to back on the passenger side of the coil while the driver side wires are (from front to back) connected to cylinders 5,6,and 4. The coil being used is below. If we had another ranger to look at we'd be all over it but....we don't and therefore we can't.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

The coil is the coil we used:

What i found looks to be the same. Have a noid plug to see if all cylinders are sparking? Maybe a bad coil outta da box.

Were these parts replaced for troubleshooting or maintenance?

I'd throw the old coil back on to see if the roughness goes away and see if the misfire (code) comes back. May have been a plug boot arcing to ground.

The coils was changed a couple years ago and is long gone and the wires are new. When we replaced the coil the wires were connected per a diagram on the autozone website, but that contradicted some others we found which were also on the web.

This is how the plug wires are connected:

and this is how one website says to connect them:

It would be nice to see a picture of how the plug wires are connected on a good running truck.

I can snap a pic tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for the pic. It looks like the wires are connected properly.

Check your grounds.
