2000 Ford Ranger (Unique Factory Build – Research Ongoing)

Been digging into this Ranger and from what I’ve found, it might be a pretty unusual factory build. It’s a 2000 regular cab Flareside, 2.5L Lima / automatic, with vinyl flooring and E4 Vermilion Red paint — a color usually limited to Lightning/SVO vehicles.





What’s interesting is that it’s badged and trimmed like an XLT, but from everything I can find, the XLT package wasn’t offered on regular-cab Flaresides that year. The door tag has a blank DSO, which seems to mean it wasn’t ordered through a regular dealer.





From what I can piece together, it may have been a factory promotional or dealer-display truck, possibly built to show off the last year of the Lima engine. Still waiting on a Marti Report to confirm, but figured I’d share what I’ve learned and see if anyone else has seen one like it.

Vermilion Red was the generic "red" color of the day, nothing really unique about it.

My brother's 1997 F-150 XLT was "Vermilion Red"

I am pretty sure it was replaced by "Race Red" sometime in the early 2010's or thereabouts.

From what I’ve found E4 Vermilion Red was a factory color earlier in the ’90s, but during 1999 it was fazed out and by 2000 ford no longer offered vermillion red to retail Ranger buyers. Any 2000 Ranger wearing E4 would’ve been a special-order or internal Ford build, not something a dealer could order off the sheet. They came in a different red
EP Flame Red and E8 Bright Red.
