2000 Ford Ranger grill question

Is there supposed to be a mesh or plastic honey comb thing behind the chrome grille on a 2000 Ranger?

WOW OK just seemed strange for the factory to leave such large openings for something to possibly fly in and hit the radiator and such.

Go to Ebay. Do a search. You can get a mesh insert as I did on my 99 Ranger!!!!!
