Is it possible to swap a 80's Mustang engine (200 inline 6) in to my Ranger?

ive seen someone swap a 300 into a ranger so im pretty sure you could do it:icon_thumby: if you do it post pics id like to see it. those motors are bullet proof. my buddy has one in his 66 stang with a 4 speed, hes currently building another 200 that will be running 20lbs of boost thats going into his stang:icon_thumby::D

Those motors sound wicked with some boost. The last one I heard sounded like a swarm of bumble bees when it was under full boost. Really cool idea. Inlines have great torque. Sounds like a fun project.

The inline six was not an 80 mustang that I know of. It had a carb'd 3.8 v6 Just like the newer ones. 1986 was the only model i ever saw though.

The 60's had the inline six it was the first motor ever in the mustang.

Mustangs could have an inline 6 from 79 to 82 or so. The 3.8 first appeared in Mustangs around 83 or 84.

I've got a 250 I6 slated for deathtrap after the V8 goes bust. It's kinda the same engine. It's a little lower on power from the factory but they do make good torque down low over a fairly nice curve if you spend a little TLC on it.

Post lots of pics if you do it.

I think we are going to try it. Last week, we picked up a 1987 Ford Ranger w/o a engine or transmission it it. We got a wrecked fox body style Mustang with an inline 6 in it. The Mustang "ran when parked". I post pics, if I'm I have any luck with this.

plz take lots of pics, id like to see this:D

title says it is an 1981. We hauled it off for some people about 3 years ago. That had it sitting in there yard for forever and a day I quess. They call us, because the insurance company was going to drop them for having "junk in the yard".

I had an 81 Mustang with the 200 inline w/4 speed; one of the best motors I've had especially at 35 below zero plus wind chill. My question is what transmission bolts up to it in a Gen 1 Ranger?

x2 on hidesertlivin's question about tranny's. i have access to a 250 that i would love to put in my truck if i could bolt it right up the 5 speed already in it. had a 250 in an old mail van that had excellent torque and power. had the 200 in a 1966 mustang i once had. it felt to me like the 250 had more pep and power even though that van weighed more than the mustang.

No Ranger transmission bolts up to it that I know of. It has an older essentially defunct bolt pattern. Plenty of transmissions bolt up to one, but they're all pretty old. Essentially you're going to run a trans that originally came behind a 200.

The 250 has a 4" stroke. So it's got quite the torque. But even though the 250 is a stroked out 200 and even the cylinder heads interchange, the 250 has a completely different bellhousing pattern, but it's one you'll like. That one has the standard SBF pattern we all know and love, same as the 302 V8, 300 I6, 351W, etc.
