2.9 tranny prob go figure

what other auto tranny will fit behind a 88 2.9l in a ranger. im lookin for an automatic but dont wanna stick with the stock replacement i can do any fab to make one fit but i wanna know what bolt patterns are shared no adapter plates

C4/C5 style tranny but they don't have overdrive and they are a different length than the A4LD.

the 2.9 shares a bolt pattern with the 4.0
as for what trannys fit, there were the A4LD, the 4R55E, and the 5R55E are all possible swaps. i dont know how difficult it would be to put a 4R55E or 5R55E from a 95+ ranger or exploder in your 88.

do you know how to tell the difference between the c4 and c6 my buddy had a good trans but doesnt know if it is a c4 or c6 it is out of a late 70's early 80's model ford truck with a 302 or 300 6cylinder will this work?? i really hope so

ive been lookin online at some charts and im pretty sure the donor tranny is a c6 will it bolt up?
