2.9 Oil Filter Adapter Removal

Greetings fellow BII-ers, Looks like I have a leaking oil filter adapter. I see it has a single bolt thru the center, however, it looks pretty tight to get to that bolt without removing the exhaust manifold. So the question is: can the oil adapter be removed without removing the exhaust manifold from the 2.9L engine. Thanks all and Happy Holidays.

I did it but don't remember how, it was many years ago.

I did one on my old 1990 Ranger. That was 12 years ago though. I know I didn't remove the manifold.

Filter off, go at it from below.

I can't say I ever took it off in the truck, but I have taken two off on the stand with the manifold in place and I had lots of room. It's not the manifold that is in the way, it's the filter and the frame.

yeah it's doable... I did one when the motor was out once. it was a hard bolt to remove it was TIGHTTTTT...

Heat was my friend that day. In the truck, that's a little different story.

Hello! I am in the process of fixing up a 1986 Bronco II, learning along the way, I believe that I have chased a leak to this spot and I am trying to figure out how to remove the adapter without messing with the exhaust if possible, I have tried with ratcheting wrench, an offset wrench, and crows foot from a bunch of different angles.. can’t seem to get in there, did you ever figure this out?
