well i picked up a 86 4x4 ranger pretty cheap but it needs exhaust. it is cut about an inch or two after the o2 on the y pipe. i need some advice on how to bring the two pipes into one so i can put a muffler on it
I just had the same problem, also an 86' 4x4. To do what you want to do I would say that no matter what you'll have to take off the y-pipe. So that means new set of spring bolts for both sides, some kind of header connecter that you can oval out to fit around both pipes, than you have to fab a nice fitting peice to fit between the two pipes that come down from the y-pipe. After that it's welding time, low heat and good welds.
I just went to NAPA and got a new y-pipe, two new sping bolt kits and a new gasket for the cat and it was only like $160. It's alot less work and a hell of a lot less time not to mention easier.
Oh ya, don't forget that you also have to buy the matching flang for the other side and do the same fabing if your planning on using a stock cat.
I guess it all depends on what your plans are after the y-pipe,wild or mild. Hope this helps. Redeyed
