EDIT: Basically what you are saying is the 2.9 is batch firing, while the 5.0 is sequential, right?

That is the way it appears to work. I learned myself this trying to get project B2POC running, of which I was unsuccessful in doing.

Most EFI 5.0Ls were sequential fuel injection, but a few were batch fire like the 2.9L. Infact some have said you can use a 2.9L harness with the batch fire 5.0L truck ECM to run a 5.0L in a Ranger.

But hell, they changed wiring colors on things between the years on these trucks. I wouldn't rely on that diagram for a truck, only to be working on what it is based on. Vehicle specific is the best I have seen so far. Gotta pay for it, but it's worth it. $11 for a used EVTM for my '87, can't go wrong there.
