2.8 liter TBI swap

Well just got my free D30 and a free rear end with a detroit locker. Dont know when I'm going to get them put under the truck though.

Rear end with detroit locker along with new bearings and seals.
Both front and rear have a 4.56 gear ratio.

looks sweet! get those suckers under just leaf them in and call her done, then mud that SH*T

I just need leafs and find out what steering components I can use and drive shaft stuff. First the enging goes in when my brother-in-law gives it back.

At first I was told it was an air locker but a quick look and spin of the axle proved other wise.

The guy that owned them had a jeep, was a major mudder, crawler, etc...did it all. Well he got a woman, things slowed down in his fun life, sold his jeep and these were spare parts and future axles he was going to use. Basiclly the fun was passed on to me.

The engine hoist just came back and work starts tomorrow on my truck. Good bye 4 banger, which will be for sale when the other motor gets running and driving.

Well at the moment no but ya it will be plus a fun truck. But as of right now its been sitting in the drive way for the last year due to no job and going to join the navy.

I drive a motorcycle if I have to go anywhere. My life would be different if the American economy hadnt gone to hell when it did.

But when I do finish it, it will be my DD and fun truck. I sold my vintage harley motorbike to fund this project but after 6 years, i didnt need it anymore.

Also want to prove I can polish a turd. I'll start up the 4 banger for one last time before starting the process of taking it out tomorrow. I basiclly grew up in this truck and I will never give it up.

Well got the engine pulled out but ran into a problem, and man did frustration kick in. Im putting an 85 slave cylinder on an 83 tranny of the same kind. This is when I discovered the problem. So a quick trip to the library later, I found out the 83 tranny has a shaft that goes over the main shaft that holds the throw out bearing. As I found out the 85 doesnt. So as I see it i'm going to be cutting this shaft off and making it the 85 slave cylinder work. One way or another I'll probably be going to the junk yard anyways so why not give a shot (or cut). Wish I had known this sooner but oh well.

As for the 2.3 motor it is for sale. Heres the link and more info. on it.

looks good! good pace, wish my project was seein this kinda attention! no cash means one project at a time. plus i may be buying a new ranger soon if when i turn 18 the bank will be generous and give me a loan. but ya a raise would help

Well just got the motor mounts in and the driverside side for the v-6 didnt fit. Fixed that problem by drilling a hole for the stub on the bottom side of the mount to go through the frame.

Its finally in the truck!!!!

Now its a matter of how fast can I hook everything up and get it running with its TBI system.

More to come later.

Well got more done but no pictures due to the weather starting to change (rain) but got the TBI mounted and just sorting out the wires and where to hook them up to. I over looked the fact that I need a voltage ragulator so thats on tomorrows to-do list. I'll have more pictures tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it running in a few days if the weather holds out.

I runs!!! Got it running today with the help of my dad doing most of the wiring. Started right up. I don't have a video of it runing yet because theres no exhaust on it yet and I live in the city. But here are some pictures of it.

All thats left is to get a different throttle cable because the 2.3 wont work on the 2.8, hook up exhaust but need to get the welder back to do that, timing and check other things to be sure its working fine.

More to come.

Haha that motor looks badass painted.. good job on the swap..i have plans for a 4.0 to be put in my truck

Thanks.

Would have been easier if the wiring harness going into the driver side firewall was a 2.8 and not a 2.3.

A 4.0 would be nice but I dont need that much power........right now.
