(2) 74 mustang IIs, $550

+1
Also, why whould you want a Mustang II?

guys in my area run mustangs for the mini stock dirt races , most are fox bodies , all have the 2.3 in them , i have a good 2.3 short block , and if i had a mustang that was in pieces , i would have me a race car

well got some guy to look at it, he said the floor is rusted, chassis is rusted, no motor, rear end is gone, so no deal

nah if i was gonna get anything else now itd probably be another gen 1 4x4 ranger

People, learn some history! The '74 Mustang II was based on the Pinto. Two engines were available, the 2.3 four-cylinder (Y code) and the 2.8 "Cologne" V-6 (Z code). None of these engines had anything to do with the '71-'73 Mustang, which had the 250 straight-six (L), the 302 V-8 (F) and the 351 V-8 (in both two- [H] and four-barrel [Q] versions). The Pinto could also be had with a 2.0, 2.3 or 2.8 liter engine during this time period (just like the '83-'85 Ranger).

The Mustang II was a big hit and came at just the right time following the Arab Oil Embargo of '73. In '75 the 302 V-8 returned to the Mustang II.

Ooops, you're right about that...technically...but if someone transplanted an engine then you never know what you might find...but apparently the engine bays are occupied by snails, earthworms, and some grass that you probably wouldn't smoke even if it had a hot exhaust to light it...

Good choice on that one Jeff...unless you want some bait for fishing...

Have you ever caught anything on snails?

I actually remember driving a '74 Mustang II, a red hatchback "Mach 1" with the 2.8 V-6 and a 4-speed. It handled pretty good (rack and pinion steering was considered mildly exotic back then), but the driving position was pretty bad. Like sitting in a hole. And the throttle response was dismal. But every Mustang II had a tachometer and a 4-speed standard, unusual for its time.

Much more fun was my buddy's '76 Mercury Capri. That car had the same 2.8 V-6 but was much livelier and felt like the German car it was. Plus it had a cool sunroof and a little map light that popped out from the headliner.

There are still a bunch of those around here. My buddy has had about five of them.

I think they're just ugly little pieces of crap but to each his own I guess. The only one I like is the Cobra version:
