:icon_cheers:I've got the 2.5, 8 plug version. I figured out how to get the driver side plugs with extensions but the only problem is being able to get those freaking wires off them plugs. I can't get the damn boots off the plugs, sort of like them suckers are glued on or something. I pulled on one in the front that is easy to get on with both hands, no joy. Any tricks getting those suckers off without using a jack hammer and TNT? The truck is a 1999 with original plugs and wire set, only have 84,000 miles. I remember pulling the wires off the plugs the easier part of the job back in the day, this is nuts.

First off I would go get a New set of wires you Will probably break a few boots

To remove try rotating boot around plug to loosen then pull maybe use a large
screwdriver

Use dielectric grease on boots when installing wires

Even when using the tool, and having previously used dielectric grease, with only 50k on the plugs/wires I broke like 6 of the boots on mine. Buy a set of wires before you dig in, ore just do one bank at a time.

the exact reason i suggested to buy new set of wires:icon_thumby:

i did have to use a 1/2 in drive impact on spark plugs to get them out of a 350 chevy once.. broke two 1/2 in drive rachets and a breaker bar with 24 in cheater on them before resorting to impact which removed them no problem.. and yes i did antiseize and put new ones in by hand with 3/8 in rachet

I'm holding out for some type of trick to remove the wire set. I hate going animal and screwing them up.

there are no other tricks other than what you've been told to do already. thats the reason we have said to just get a new set of wires because there is always a chance you will screw on up. they are only about $30 and yes they will add just a little cost but also piece of mind.. when i change plugs i am always prepared to replace wires.

wire set for you:icon_thumby:

I figured out a trick.........since I purchased new wires I was not concern with destroying the old wire sets. I just jam a small flat screw driver down between the wire and the rubber boot. Then shot in WD-40 and let that set for ten minutes or so. Worked out ok. That rubber bakes into the plugs, just a matter of some lube is all it takes. The other thing that help was using a large screw driver to get the boot turning and breaking some of that grip inside the rubber boots. Just did the plugs on the passenger side for now. I'm not too concern with the driver side since that is the lost spark(retarded) side which will not to my knowledge improve the running or starting of the rig.
