below is coolant pump cavity, note it is part of the block.



below is oil separator, there is a hole behind it that exposes the crankcase. blue elbow is PCV valve, another bolt is hidden behind the hose.
lower right is oil filter adapter location.
upper right is Exhaust Gas Regurgistation tube

above cylinder #4 exhaust port, cavity is EGR path to hole in head



above head coolant opening, also can see channels for EGR from EX port on right, thru valve holes,
out thru upper channel to intake tube

above the 2 vertical protrusions between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 are oil drain back channels, they are huge.

the black piece ratchets out as wear occurs, and prevents the plunger from being pushed way back in

the red is the end of the timing bolt. you remove the bolt and insert a longer timing tool that will stop the crankshaft at top dead center.
the green is #1 connecting rod, yep, there is a hole in the front of the block so you can see the crank go round 'n round

above this bolt sets the harmonic balancer ONLY at TDC,
it does not set the crank anywhere


above bolt goes thru hole in harmonic balancer to set HB at TDC


above remove this bolt for crank timing, insert tool
crank trigger sensor is dangling

pry it up from 2 tabs

black plastic is oil pickup

covers up/seals the EGR cavity/passage.
note runners go way out to clear Fusion tranny

more 2.5 pics, VCT


above VCT gear assembly. there are 2 oil feed paths to the VCT gear to activate it, or not.
oil is fed from the bearing saddle, goes into cam, flows thru cam to outer set of holes,
then into VCT gear. hard to see other set of holes in gear, the tube is in one of those holes.


above yellow denotes complete path.
in at bearing, thru cam to outer holes, then into gear


above red and green holes where solenoid directs oil to
either channel in cam bearing saddle.


above cam bearing saddle with channels, holes are out of view.


above red is dipstick hole. in a 2.5 Fusion the dipstick goes thru the engine.

the wire is in one of the 4 oil drain back channels, they are right next to head bolts.


above oil drain channel, wire fed into top of head and comes out the bottom

Cool pictures and is it me or not but the eighth picture down looks like there is a crack in the block.

that's the head, above 3 and 4. I think its just casting marks or where the dirt line was. there was no trauma to other parts in that area. I'll check it out tomorrow.
