Any good threads on the swap of a 93 Splash to 93 XL? If my 178k XL engine is toast, I'll swap with my 140k Splash that runs great.

procedures? pitfalls?

Those engines are not the same between the different models that year?

If they're both '93 they should be fine, there's very few differences between '89-94 in general other than the EGR setup and switching to a fabricated manifold from cast.

Should be about as straight forward as a swap can be, the upper bellhousing bolts are difficult to get to but either a 13mm ratcheting wrench from below or a swivel socket and really long extensions make it not bad... remember to support the front of the transmission to either the radius arm crossmember or a ratchet strap around the frame rails. oh and take the fan off, the engine is long enough on it's own...

I think that's the way I want to go, take my time in pulling the Donor engine and tranny out of my '93 Splash, pull the current 93 xl engine, fix the splash ring gear, assemble and stuff it in. I drove the splash fron 114k to 150 k and liked the motor...The chasiss and body failed finally here in New England.

Any more hints from those experienced in this simple Remove & Replace swap?

You do have two '93's, I was confused there for a bit

One tip I just remembered, getting the fuel lines off of the fuel rail is usually a pain but it's easy to get them off the fuel filter and there's a junction in the return line around there too usually if I remember right so disconnect them there in the drivers frame rail.

Other than that the engine mount nuts are 18mm hex and the bellhousing bolts are 1/2 or 13mm whichever you have... the exhaust bolts at the back of the manifold might be cranky but it would probably be the easiest place to disconnect the exhaust so you don't have to deal with the EGR tube.
