2.3 timing belt/cam gear


Fuel pump died so I replaced it and went ahead and checked the timing belt and it was off 1 tooth. Got that corrected and has more power. Now the carb is acting up. I guess it's a never ending journey with a neglected classic truck lol. May try to find a new owner for the Ranger and put the proceeds toward the F150 for now. Who knows.
 
Hmmm...seems you just fix the last problem and then decide to sell it...I messed with mine for almost two years...finally got everything working the way it should...and I blew the bottom end out of the engine...

This is the way I set initial cam timing. Remove cam cover, set crankshaft at top dead center. I have a piece of 1/4 " steel plate 2"wide and 6" long, But you could use a piece of 2x4. Lay the plate on top of the intake and exhaust cam lobes for #1 cyl and level it to the cam cover rails on the head. Install the belt. The cam timing should be right as long as the head or block have NOT been resurfaced.

How do you compinsate for a head thats been milled 10 thou?
