I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but.......... The only way you could swap in a turbo motor in your truck is to find a motor that is 1992 or newer. According to the B.A.R. (Bureau of Automotive Repair), "The engine you are putting in your vehicle must be from a 1992 vehicle or newer, and must have California emissions. It can't have a federal engine (49-state emissions controls)"....... I'm doing a turbo swap in my truck right now, (1987 turbo coupe motor in an 87 ranger), and have not gotten it reffed yet, still working on a stubborn check engine light issue....... I spoke with a referee and recieved a pamphlet from them stating what can and can't be done. You can also check out the website at www.autorepair.ca.gov and type in "engine change" in the search bar and it wil give you the guidelines as to what is required according to them......
