2.3 Ranger losing power when accelerating

Old thread........but unresolved problem...

Can you give us an update? Did you fix the issue, and if so..........then what was it? My 2003 B2300 is doing exactly the same thing. Already replaced TPS, replaced the fuel filter and air filter, cleaned the MAFS, and replaced the coil pack...

Disconnect the MAP sensor. If it runs better...change it. After washing my ranger's engine I ended up doing a complete tune-up before I was able to connect it to my brother's Ethos and see that the MAP sensor had flatlined. I think you may be able to put paper clips on the output terminals and connect a voltmeter and vacuum pump to the sensor to see if it is working. If you do not want to do all this, find a mechanic with an Ethos or other scanner that gives real time diagnostics (not a simple code reader).

Thanks for the input. Replaced the TPS. That one was defective, so I took it back and got a good one to swap in. Changed plugs and wires. Still no change. Was going to replace the MAP sensor, but decided to replace the tired little pickup instead. All kinds of wierd things were failing on it. I'd put 164K on it, and all indications were that it wasn't gonna make 200K. Lotsa noises from within the engine (piston slap, rod knock, etc) despite regular oil changes with Mobil-1 synthetic. The heater contol valve broke for no reason (plastic body crumbled like it was made of chalk) on the way to work one night, causing me to call in sick. Hoses started leakin' all over the place. Tires needed replacing. Still running like poop. Figured it didn't make sense to put any more money into a truck that just was't worth much anymore. I NEED a reliable vehicle to get to work.

Took advantage of the Ford incentives ($4500 total) and traded the B2300 in. The incentives were expiring on 7/05, so I had to decide quickly. Replaced the battery (it was OLD, and died one night) and cleared the codes. For some reason, she ran a bit better on the final drive to the dealer. Traded 'er in on my new 2011 4WD Ranger Sport. Bought the only MT equipped 4L 4WD Ranger I could find in any dealer inventory in northern Ca. Had to drive 80 miles (one way) to get it...

She was beggin for one more chance!

That's what I was thinking. I hope it got fixed up and went to someone who's using it for cheap tranportation.
