2.3 Max power.

I'm thinking you could get there much easier. You should be able to get to 150 hp with EFI and dual plug head. A good port match, a better cam, header, and free flowing exhaust. I just don't know what all that will do to the computer. You may end up with a really bad running truck or, it may just run a little funky every now and then. There are after market EFI systems available that are adjustable but, they are not exactly cheap. It is also possible to get your computer adjusted for the changes but, that isn't cheap either.

the computer end of the tuning isnt that bad. a wideband O2 sensor, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and maybe larger injectors are in order. i dont forsee a n/a build getting out of the adjustment range of the factory computer.

Are there any computer programs out there that would allow me to get into the computer and adjust everything accordingly?

yeah, its called a twEECer and its not cheap.

its also not really necissary in your case, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would be enough for your needs.

Are there any plug and play modules I can attach and open up some horsepower? I used a VENOM 400 module on my mitsubishi eclipse some years back and it gave me some more power I didn't know I had.

Just an open exhaust will throw that thing off pretty bad. I really wish someone here would do it so we can get some info. I'm interested in putting the dual plug head and EFI on the Mutant pony but, I can't afford all that expensive EFI modification stuff. I have several stock systems though.

im running true dual exhaust on my 3.0. thats about as free flowing and far from stock as you can get and the stock computer easily adapted to it. the 2.3 uses the same software.

youd be surprised what EEC-IV is capable of adjusting to. i didnt even throw a code after i bent the exhaust valve on my truck and drove 12 miles down the highway dumping raw fuel into the exhaust.

I just ordered a header from racingwalsh.com.I slap it on the truck when I get it and let you know what happened.I hope it isnt too bad.haha.

You won't notice a lot of difference from just the header. It opens up the engine so that other changes work better. A nice 2 1/2" exhaust with a muffler will keep the computer happy for now.

hey man, do u have any idea where i can get parts from the roush 2300 or even the whole motor or just the block?

The motors that roush used in racing were "based" on a 2300. They were destroked to 2.1. They used cosworth cylinder heads.
You could try contacting Roush Racing but, I would imagine the ones they still have are in a museum. I thought about it but, I'm to poor to even give them an offer.

94 model 2300. Stock tubular header, 2.5" exhaust, no kitty, no muffler. Dumping behind the cab. Ported/matched tb/ and plenum. Hi flow intake. Cam timing advanced 2 deg. Throws some codes every now and them, 99% of the time the codes come up after I get on it real hard for a while. I dont know what code it is, but runs like a scalded dog, plugs look a tad black. I think its getting rich b/c the exhaust is getting cold by the time it hits the O2 bc the exhaust is so large. Torque and low end power have actually improved, not gotten worse due to the exhaust. Smells rich. Runs awesome, esp on 93 octane. No likey the 87.

Next comes a bigger cam, some head work and lighter flywheel and HD clutch. I am going to see what the ole 5 speed/rear axle can handle. Hell might even throw a 2500 stroker kit in it, get a custom chip burned and put some 40lb/hr injectors in it.

These are the kind of "glitches" I was talking about. It may run just fine most of the time but, every now and then it does something wierd and it is primarily because you messed with things.
I think the 2.5 stroker kit would work good for a Ranger, All that weight could use all the torque it can get. The 40lb injectors may be a little big though. Keep us updated!!!
