2.3 exhaust setup

Ever since I got my truck, it had a delta 40 1 in 2 out on it, and now it comes out right by the passenger door, well I ordered a new Gibson exhaust and cat for it to helpfully help gas mileage, but mainly for the noise. My question is, since the current exhaust has so many welds on it, I cannot tell how it was stock. Does the stock cat bolt right to the header? or do i need a pipe to go from the header to the cat?

Since I also have a 2.3L '94 Ranger and mine happens to be stock I figured I'd go outside, lay on the ground, and take a picture for you. Who loves ya?

You are the man, thank you so much, that is exactly what i needed to see. If you don't mind me asking, what MPG do you get from yours all nice and stock?

I hate to tell you now because I just did a tune-up and Sea-Foamed the hell out of it so the jury is still out. I can tell you that I was terribly upset that it had dropped down to 20mpg. I generally expect about 24-25 mpg.

Oh, well don't worry I'm getting 14 mpg on a good day, last tank I got a little better than 13. I know that having the 33 inch tires doesn't help, but with 4.56 gears I do remember getting almost 18 if not better after the tires.

I really expect my mileage to jump back up to 24-25 on this tank. I have the new plugs, wires, air filter, oil and filter, transmission fluid, brake fluid, clutch fluid, 190-degree thermostat, radiator flushed and refilled, and air in the tires. (I know some of those have nothing to do with mileage, but that's all stuff from this past week.)
Do you think hitting up the junkyard for new O2 sensors will make any difference?

As far as 14 mpg, I was getting 10 on my 1999 F-250 with a two-inch lift and 33 inch tires. And the grill guard and off road lights and divide that by the Triton V-10 6.7L motor and that's actually pretty good. Man, sometimes I wish I still had that truck.

I'm on my 3rd 02 sensor, and i regret throwing away the original because I think I got the best MPG with it, and the Bosch and the one in it now (forget the name) seem to be the same.

That F-250 is sweet, I always wanted the v-10 until gas prices, but i think i would love to get the powerstroke now.

You've got to be kidding me...cranberry? Who would have thought we would have the same damn color? Your's looks great. Those few pics answered a lot of questions I had about how mine would look with certain mods.

I thought the same thing when I saw your truck. It must have been a more popular color then I originally thought. If you have any questions on what I've done, let me know, I will try to answer them as best I can. And thanks for the looks great, not really sure why I did what I did, but oh well whats done is done. haha

When I bought my truck in March of '96 the paint on the hood and top of the cab had spiderweb cracks in it under the clear-coat. I was wondering if your truck's paint had the same problem. I don't recall right off-hand what plant made mine. Anyway, the paint on the cab eventually broke through the clear-coat and flaked off so I sanded it down and put a shot of flat black on it to halt any rust. So far the hood is holding, but I know if I ever want it to look remotely decent I am going to have to repaint it.

My dad actually bought the truck new in 94, and in 98 we moved into a new house with a garage. Since my dad is a cop he uses his cruiser, so the truck was garaged kept from 98 til 2003 when I could start driving, and only had 32k on it. So needless to say, the paint never really saw the sun. I had the whole truck repainted about 2 years ago too since the only thing that mine was doing was just going dull and I caught it on my fench and put a big scratch and dent in it and had a spray in bed liner done too. If you noticed, mine doesn't have the stripes on it anymore either. The new paint really made it look good too, I had a good laugh at my old job, I got a parking warning and the officer put 2001 Ranger. But I do know that Ford was having a problem with their paint in the late 80's and early 90's and I guess mine never got a chance to get bad.

Yeah, I lamented on here a week or so back that I wished Ford had recalled that batch of paint. It never got as bad as most of the Chevy's I have seen from the same time, but it still looks pretty rough. I have seriously been toying with the idea of repainting it over the summer. I know my dad will say, "It's a Ford and it ain't worth it," but I'll rough him up a little bit and he'll let me use the shop. Currently I am (slowly but surely) changing the interior to black.
