1st gen bumper on 2nd gen ranger

Wanted to know if I could bolt up a first gen bumper to a second gen ranger, don’t really care for the plastic trim on my 91 & the first gen bumpers look a lot cleaner

I'm pretty sure that works fine. Measure the width between the mounting brackets and give them a quick look to make sure they look the same. Then go for it.

It will not be anywhere near "bolt on." The front frame horns are completely different - first gens have two carriage bolts through the front, second gens have bolt plates that go through the sides of the frame behind the bumper.

I have a first gen body on a second gen frame, and I did put a first gen bumper on it but it involved cutting frame horns off of another frame and modifying them so that it fits. It looks OK, the bumper should sit closer to the body though.

My suggestion is, don't waste your time with it, the first gen bumper will not line up with the second gen body lines and it will look funny. If you want a different bumper, build one from scratch that fits and looks like it should be there.

Yep! It's hard to visualize it from the pics but the bumper sits out an inch or two from where it normally would. It doesn't look bad, anyone who doesn't know, probably would never notice it.

just depends on what bumper.

i wasnt sure if he meant factory stock or some sort of aftermarket unit.

couple pieces of heavy angle and channel can adapt stuff up pretty good. like when modding and mounting a rear bumper to put front. that really changes the look and cutting and fitting up a winch plate can come out really well with just a drill and a cut off wheel.

trs 1 was set up like that iirc and it was pretty slick.....or maybe i am mixing it up with another. there were quite a few like that.
