1999 4x4 problems

1999 ford ranger xlt cleaned hubs once already this winter and then it worked fine but now it wont lock in it sounds like it but it really doesnt? it also wont even go to 4 low the light wont show up either for low anyone experience the same problem? if so any solutions

pull the shift motor off and hit the buttons, see if the peg moves.

I had the same problems, well I did a write up for cleaning and trouble shooting the hubs, but it seems the hubs aren't the problem.

I had it so that my 4x4 lo wouldn't work either and it ended up just kinda fixing itself. One day it didn't work and the next month i was going to work on it and it worked.

I would start with pulling the shift motor like adam said see if it moves, cause chances are it went out or something between the switch and the motor is grounded or went bad.

well took it apart after i got done with 1st block of school, shift motor went out. thanks alot im sure glad i found out about this site.
