1998 V-8 Roots supercharged ranger.

nicely built! i see youre from warrenville, i live in Oswego, but i work at fermilab, hope to see the truck around sometime!

This is what I've been telling the wife I'm doing to mine as soon as the 2.3 is done in my 2003 and I don't have to commute 140 miles/day. Found a fabricator in Fla. that makes a kit to bolt the IRS from a T-bird/Cougar into it for under $300 (you supply rear donor). Love the Splash trucks.
Congrats on STOTM!

FUKKIN SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now do they make superchargers for carbed 302s??

That thing's sweet. Is it mostly a drag truck or your daily driver?

Congrats on the STOTM win.

Thank you!

I find it EXTREMELY ironic, but a fitting end for the truck.

I moved to Lisle back in Spring, but I was running all over Warrenville since I finished the swap back in March of 2010. Surprised you never heard/saw me, i lived right next to Fermilab.

I daily drove it during the summer whenever it was nice outside and the truck wasn't having issues...

Those of a weak stomach should not watch the following video. This is how the truck is as of Sunday:

I already addressed it in another thread, but since I'm going to get a Halo of flak for scrapping this truck:

- Truck was due for emissions AND registration renewal 11/1/11.
- The body was shot (More money to get it repaired and repainted to be presentable than it would cost to buy another, cleaner truck).
- Truck was STILL having issues shifting at the right RPM on its tune
- Truck needed more fuel (bigger injectors)
- Trans pan started to leak
- Valve cover seeping a bit
- Defroster not working correctly
- Had to load new tunes using another truck due to wiring issues (Remove ECU from ranger, Put into my explorer, Load new tune into Ranger ECU WITH explorer, put ECU back in ranger.... VERY annoying)
- Truck is worthless in the snow/rain (Between the defroster, and the whole 80/20 weight distribution.

Yes, I know there are ways around emissions, and yes I could have shelled out the money for a real tune to have gotten around emissions as well. But if I did that I'd be out nearly a grand, and still wouldn't drive it again until March/April, and it would still look like hell.

The decision was really made about a week or 2 ago that I'm switching to an 5 speed trans, and putting the engine in my 1997 explorer sport (2wd, 5 speed already).

I want something I can enjoy every day, that can carry people and cargo outside of the rain and on the highway, and something that can still boogie at the track.

I'm basically accepting the extra 500lbs the explorer sport has over its rear tires in exchange for gaining power windows, power locks, power mirrors, working heat, and the luxury of interior space.

I am buying larger injectors, Torque Monster Headers, and getting a real tune before April to make up for the extra weight. I plan to then hit the track with 3 buddies and my grill in the truck, unload, and line up for a low 13 second pass in what looks to be the worlds first Supercharged, 5 speed, explorer sport.

V8 1998 2wd 5.0

Currently planing a 5.0 swap on a 2000 ford ranger automatic 4 cyl/2 wd and was wondering if a 98 2wd 5.0 would be the best year explorer for a downer vehicle if not which one and why? Looking for the easiest fastest way without spending a fortune.

Any information in regards to a v8 swap to my 2000 ranger is welcomed and thanks in advance.

1999 or newer is the absolute best. PATS is the only real 'con' of going with a 99-01 motor and ECU, but you get to keep your returnless fuel system on both the motor and truck saving plumbing. 96-98 is return style.

The cheapest way would be to buy my kit for $300, and I'll ship it to your door. (4.0 SOHC Engine mounts, one-off engine brackets to work in the ranger with the 5.0 engine and 4.0 SOHC engine mounts, and an ECU that has had PATS disabled, and a premium fuel tune loaded). Otherwise you will need to find a machine shop to custom fab up the brackets you will need + buying the right motor mounts etc.

If you are up for one hell of a road-trip I'd include the transmission, starter, cooler, torque converter, and radiator you'd need for another $300.

Sad ending :-( followed the build for awhile glad the heart lives on!

why is it that both trucks that won totm this month have now been stripped down to nothing b4 the end of the month? lol

Nice build! ive been pondering the V8 swap for quite some time, nervous to gut it really... but if i can get some pretty solid advice and steps, plus watching builds like yours.. i might just jump in head first! nice rig, congrats on STOTM!

how much do u want for ur old rims. the ones in the pic wit the tail pipe?
