1997 Aerostar

I have a source on getting a 1997 Aerostar with a decent motor but the body is worn out in it. It's got the 4.0. What will be compatible with my 87 Ranger

Ummm.... almost nothing.

1997 was the very last year for the Aerostar and it had some unique differences...

1997 used the 5R55E five speed automatic and EEC-V engine management.

This is in addition to all the other stuff that's different between Aerostars and Rangers.

I'm thinking is that if you REALLY want to mess with putting an EEC5 engine into an '87 you may as well go whole hog and track down an OHC explorer to pillage the engine out of.
