1996 ranger blinker gremlin

So I am new to this forum, i am mostly a Ford diesel guy but i just picked up this 96 4.0 4x4 5 speed for $600, has a few issues but the one that gets me right now is the blinkers.

I replaced the blinker/wiper assembly on the column, the reason being is that the flashers work, the blinkers work only if you haven't fully turned the ignition to where the engine cranks. After you crank over the engine, they will not work.

Is there a sensor on or around the lock cylinder that can be adjusted or cleaned??

Sounds like the ignition switch isn't goin all the way back to run.

Did you try wiggling the key back?

How are the rest of the keyed on accessories? Radio, wipers.

Since I bought it the key was broke off in the ignition so im using a screwdriver to start it at the moment. You are right though it does feel sticky, it will stick forward with the starter on sometimes then I have to move the ignition back to shut the starter off.

All the other keyed accessories work great, maybe put some wd 40 or silicone spray in it to see if it helps it slide back?
