1994 problems.

ok so now suddenly today it just died completely. started bucking, hesitating, jerking, rpms going up and down, then it died.wouldn't start, then it did but not idle couldn't get the rpm's up then die, and that was it...nothing but a dead truck.....

would this be the ICM?

You have gas in it right?

lol, yeah almost as full tank

I know you are new here so I will be kind......but you need to do a better job of giving us details.......reread the thread. you never came back to post that you put on a new coil.......then you started talking about a new issue.........go test it for spark and give us details.........

not to split hairs but i did say i was gonna go buy a new coil pack....but anyways, retested the new coil pack, tested fine...fuel pump kicks in once i turn the key, lots of gas in the tank, it turns over awesome, just won't fire up. cleaned the MAF, its got a new fuel filter, plugs and wires are fairly new

please bare with me as i am a fairly decent backyard mechanic its just that all this computer stuff eludes me, lol...give me a small block with a carb any day, lol....

just wondering what that canister is beside the battery? also one of the lines to it has rusted through and is just dangling there....

thanks again, appreciate all the help.....

so i read up on checking codes and found when i did the test i have 212, 232, 543.....

my book doesn't list a 232, i checked and rechecked the codes 4 times...

thanks

232 -- EI primary coil circuit failure - Ignition Systems

awesome thanks....what does that mean? lol....man i should stick to carbs...

Beats me... maybe someone stole your coil pack? :dunno: lol!

I'm just guessing here...
I would look for an intermittent short or loose connection in your wiring for the ignition system. Or maybe your coil pack is getting hot and the circuit is opening up causing it to throw that code. Look for corroded contacts, loose grounds, etc, anything that will cause a higher resistance in your wiring.

awesome, thanks, thats what i have been doing as per your advice....

i found a broken, rusted line that i am assuming is a vacuum line to a canister....

can anyone tell me what it is for?

cheers

Evaporative emissions cannister.

Fix that, it's a vacuum leak. At least plug the liine if nothing else.

will do...thanks......any chance of it being the cause of my problems??:dunno:

Probably not. it would fire up and stall or idle really bad with a vacuum leak.

With a rusty line like that that has rotted through. I would have to suggest that you go over every ground you can find. And it never hurts to add new grounds if the ground wire cannot be found or its quality is in doubt.

Start with the engine blocks ground.

actually it does fire up then die 4 seconds later...during those 4-5 seconds it idles like crap....

i tried the engine ground idea, used a jumper cable and connected the engine direct to the battery negative and it didn't change anything...

i am gonna replace that vacuum line tomorrow and then start the long search for ground wires...

but your post kinda give me a little light seeing you said kinda what it is doing.....

thanks tonnes

Have you tried plugging that line and starting your truck to see if that helped?
