Hey. How is everyone? I am having a damn pesky problem with my Ranger. It has 230K on it for reference. The symptoms are as follows:

Rough Idle - Tach jumps a good 300 either way at idle, enough to shake the chassis. It appears to almost stall out every once in a while but never fully does.

Bucking/Jerking at highway speed - If cruising at around 60 MPH the truck will jerk and buck. If I go Wide Open Throttle it seems to resolve it. I have not noticed any other correlation, it does not seem to be stuck between gears or anything.

Shit I have replaced/done:
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
EGR Valve
DPFE Sensor
Timed (it was 10 Degrees off (recently I had to replace distributor, guy who was helping me took the old one out without marking so we had to base it off of top dead center while actually timing is 10 Degrees BTDC))

Codes :
DTC 213 SPOUT Circuit Open (Uh, I lost that damn little thing when I timed)
DTC 332 EGR Flow Insufficient (Still there after EGR Valve replacement)
DTC 558-EGR Vacuum regulator curcuit failure

So I assume my symptoms are related to EGR and I also assume DTC 558 can cause DTC 332. So does anyone have any experience with a 558 or with EGR Vacuum Regulator Circuit Failure?

Thanks. I am at wits end.

You need to do wires, cap and rotor too, to eliminate ignition. I'd the coil too, they are cheap.

You need to find a spout jumper and put it in. Otherwise it just uses base timing and runs poorly.

332 is caused by 558. It's the black vacuum valve on the left side of the intake. Check that it's plugged in. Check that it has vaccum on one of the nipples. Check the vacuum hoses. Ohm it out, should be about ~ 1000 ohms.

They do go bad. I just replaced a good one though. If you find it is bad, PM me your address, I'll sell for $10 shipped. They're $40 new.
