1991 Escort GT

My Laser had the automatic seat belts, must not have been too unsafe as they got me a discount on my insurance.

Of course mine didn't work, so I had to manually latch each one. It was actually kind of fun to do each one seperatly, made it feel like you really had a wicked car... not that it wasn't.

the Z
pics of the z....20,000 miles ago but looks the same

oh and its even an s/r??? i woulda traded, no questions asked. i would be really pissed right now if you were closer to me though

it looks like somebody peed in your seat hahaha

I remember those belts but I don't see the mechanics of it scalping you. You have to do the lap part yourself, so if you neglect that, then I can see some issues. I found them annoying.

the only thing i can think of is if you got your hair caught in it and it tried to drag you around. my hairs not that long, no worries here. they are annoying though, definitely have to get used to them.

auto seat belts in both of my racecorts...my biggest miff is the WAITING. open the door and....wait....wait for it...ok, just a sec...ok get out of the car.

never been scalped, but i wear a hat all the time ;brownbag;

nice looking ride though...go show some honda boys how its done :icon_thumby:

update pics for anybody thats interested...

i was lucky enough to find another cayman green EGT at a local junkyard. i stole the hood, fender, grille, hood latch, bumper, headlight and a whole ton of random hardware. i also found a set of mercury tracer corner lights that look a hell of a lot better than the escorts solid amber corners. they swapped right in. total cost in j/y parts was $150. i still have to pull it all apart again and keep working on the core support and inner fender. its still twisted bad enough things dont line up right. the grille doesnt even fit between the headlights.

wicked, you have escorts? what do you have?

girlfriend drives the red one...as its by far a better runner. i drive the blue one and keep adding stupid crap to it; like LED side marker/blinkers, or LED dash lights:

very fun little cars...very good daily driving power. easy and cheap to maintain, and very reliable. my major complaint is the only limited slip available costs about 4x what the cars are worth (accelerating around a corner is pretty well futile).

ive not seen much of the 1st gen escorts. what engine do they have? are they built on the same mazda bg chassis? anyways, good to see somebody else with escorts. ive had a ton of fun with mine, its a blast to drive. i was told i should be able to pull 30-32 mpg, but i cant keep my foot of the pedal. im getting 25-26 mpg lol.

the early escorts werent related to the mazdas (that didnt start until '91 i believe). they were all escort back then.

my gen escort GT sports the 1.9L HO...which makes 110 HP, 20 HP more than the base model 1.9. later model escorts had higher horsepower ratings only because they had a higher red line...torque figures are nearly identical all the way up to the 2.0 SOHC used in early foci (yes, the CVH engine enjoyed a 24-year life span).

unfortunatly, my blue escort has recently run into some unforseen problems. i blew a head gasket and some other things (new thread HERE)....hope to have it running again soon.

the blue escort has always gotten worse mileage than the red one (probably due to a blown head gasket)...but even on a bad day it gets 31-32...and yes i drive like an idiot too. the girlfriend drives the red one and shes gotten 36 out of it before. ive noticed the older escorts tend to get a little better mileage than the '90's models for whatever reason.
