1991 2wd 3.0 noise??

Update:
After running for around an hour at idle with around 40 psi(oil), it started to faintly tick.

I still think you should double check your oil pressure. If the engine was at full operating temp the idle psi would not be 40 psi. You'd be lucky to see 10 psi at proper idle rpm.

After a long weekend, and lots of testing, tear-down, and rebuilding. I found that there were multiple issues causing sounds similar to a tick. I replaced the belts, and the tension-er/ pulley assembly for the power steering belt. When i started to take it apart i found that the power steering pump bracket was loose on the engine and flopping back and forth about 1/4 inch, and i tightened it up. So that took care of three possible tick sounds, the A/C clutch, the power steering belt tension-er, and the power steering pump bracket. After i finished up with those repairs i went for a test drive, not only where there less ticks, but there was a new problem; this truck goes where it wants to. The steering linkages are bad. I then get a new long drag-link (pass in-side tie rod), and replace it. it still wanted to go crazy; and i still have that tick!. Back to testing, i found that when i can hear only one tick it is a lot easier to pin point with a stethoscope (previous repairs eliminated the others). It is definitely coming from the front of the motor behind the water pump, so timing chain. I then turned my attention to the steering; i found that i need the other drag-link (driver in-side tie rod) as well as new long arm bushings. It was kind of fun driving it on that test drive; cuz it would randomly dance 4 ft or more and man what a rush. Well after putting $700.00 into 6 months of ins and $200.00 for plates i will have to wait for some more money to be able to fix these issues.
