1990 to 1996 compatibility

How similar is the engine, transmission and t-case in a 1990 to a 1996 if both have 4.0, 5 speed and manual t-case?

Says it has new gaskets, plugs and fluids. Has lifter ticks. Odds of gasket material plugging up the oil pick-up screen?

It has a decent looking topper on it too.

Looks totally straight in the photos.

I believe that from 94 to 97 there was a different engine control system on the truck. I know there is OBDII on anything from 96 on, it was federal law. The engines were very similar.

I guess I'm most interested in the transmission and t-case information though, as mine are on their way out.

If the trans is the M5Dr2, and both 4wd, than they will be the same. There different t-case options for different years. The only way to check is visual inspection.

$650 is a good price for a topper in good shape by itself. The added value is the truck.

its a m5od-r1, r2's are in 150's

Oh, and if its a electric shift t-case, the controllers are different. 1995 and later used the GEM. but i think mechanicaly the t-case's are the same

95+ use egr and use the eecV electronics. you could swap to the 90 intake and you might have to change some of the sensors but it shouldn't be too bad.
