Hi my name is James I'm new here I have a 1989 Ford ranger two-wheel drive I took the engine out and I'm trying to just get rid of the engine harness I was wondering if anybody knew or knows how I'm trying to keep all other electrical except the engine harness thank you

Find the ECU. Usually they are behind the pass side kick panel. Take the ECU out, unplug the large wiring plug off of it. Fold the wiring to the large plug very tightly on itself and push it through the large grommet in the firewall, the grommet will come out at the same time.

You will have to fish this large bundle of wires up the pass side fender. Gently pull on it, anything connected to it can leave. Relays, sensors, etc. You will find a wire or two near the starter solenoid, these are power and grounds, they need to be snipped and taped.

Once the large bundle of wires is free, you are done. You still should have some sending unit wires left, your lighting wiring will still be there, but all the computer wiring for the old engine will be gone.

Save the white/lightblue stripe wire that goes to the old ignition coil. This can be handy to power the ignition on the new engine.
