1988 ranger

I have a 1988 ford ranger with a 2.0. It has started to throw oil out of the dipstick. What could be wrong with it other than a broken ring? Could it be a stuck PCV and if it is a PCV where is it located at. It is not in the breather cover.

Don't know if it is the PCV valve, but the PCV valve is located near the distributor cap.

Hmmmm....been there and done that...could be the PCV or the connector where the carb takes the PCV hose...I had to remove my carb once to clean out the junk in there and that helped quite a bit with the blowby...

But it could also be worn rings or a hole in your piston...easy things you can check are compression and the PCV valve...or clean that whole system from the canister under the intake to the carb passages...it's easy but it takes a while and may or may not correct the problem.

If you haven't done a compression test on it you might want to start there to save yourself some time...if you're getting low compression readings or one cylinder is more than 15% lower than the rest then you have a problem that requires rebuild...
